Ender Martos
Describe your artistic style in three words.
Vibrant geometric abstraction
What's inspiring you right now?
My most recent work explores the reflective surfaces as a means for connection between artist, artwork, and audience. By incorporating colored mirrored Plexiglas, I include the audience’s likeness in the work. My story becomes theirs as viewers experience the tension between their familiar image and the visual richness of the work as it changes.
What do you do when you're feeling uninspired?
I keep a constant working pace through rough and good times. Sometimes inspiration takes longer but it always makes an appearance sooner or later, and this habit maintains a constant evolution of ideas for the next series.
Tell us something unique about your process.
When I reached the rebellious nature of adolescence years; I was introduced to a stricter form of delineation where he discovered the influence of structure through the discipline of Technical Drawing. Five years of rigorous enrollment taught me to appreciate art as a kind of architecture, in which the meticulous negotiation of design enables the creation of artwork. Technical instruction gave me strength in which to build expression.
What advice do you have for other artists?
Being a successful artist today requires not just artistic skill and talent, but also the business acumen to be able to successfully market oneself and make a living off of one’s artwork.
Additionally, artists need to find and hone their voice and self-confidence. It is critical to persevere to pursue ones’ passion in spite of societies’ emphasis on traditional means of living.
