Open Chair recognizes the importance of creating spaces that lead to a sense of community and mutual discovery. They present a perspective of a rapidly changing city through intimate portraits that illustrate the love, humor, and resoluteness of Black Austin. Through our homage to past and present Austin, they hope to foster a space for minority Austinites to continue the audacity of visibility.

Currently, Open Chair is collaborating with the Historic Preservation Office to produce a photography book and city-wide installations celebrating historic Black and Latinx neighborhoods.

Tamar Price is a creative producer based in Austin, Texas. Her narrative work includes the We Are: Short Film Series which premiered on Issa Rae Productions’ YouTube in 2017, and Yirga which screened at SXSW 2019, Palm Springs Short Fest, Indy Shorts, and more. Aside from her 9 to 5 at notable alt-weekly The Austin Chronicle, she continues to collaborate with creators and community to bring diverse projects like Untapped and Open Chair to Austin and beyond.

Brittney Williams is an interior designer based in Austin, TX. Previous local works include Swedish Hill, Joann’s Fine Foods and Pool Burger while employed at McGuire Moorman Hospitality. As a native Austinite, born and raised, she has found her return to Austin from New York to be confronting. She works to design spaces that illustrate the true breadth of Austin while centering communities of color through creative endeavors like Open Chair.
