Saul Jerome E. San Juan closes his time at The LINE Hotel Austin showcasing his art, including plein-air watercolors and studio oil painting. created during the six-week residency organized by Big Medium.
From 2pm to 4PM, there will be a performance of American Cheese Fondue, an assembly line of artists, consisting in this edition, of artists Jeffrey Primeaux, Richard Ashby, Thomas Cook, and Valerie Chaussonnet.
Through conscious choices of technique, medium, and subject matter, Saul Jerome E. San Juan wishes to disarm his own preconceptions and others’ presumed preconceptions about self-identity and otherness. Keeping on keeping on living with a like-dislike relationship with societal propriety as a queer, male, cis-gendered, postcolonial immigrant of color in a tribal world dominated by polite Anglo-American masculinity, San Juan channels his idiosyncratic desires through art that indulges the overlooked IN-BETWEEN: primitively elegant, irreverently musky, and understatedly handsome, like Austin and the surrounding Texas Hill Country in the bright, quietly intense heat of the summertime.
