Proposal Review with Carre Adams and Andrea Mellard
Gain insight into the proposal review process from curators Carre Adams and Andrea Mellard. In a dual presentation, they will give you their personal perspectives when analyzing proposals in an effort to help you improve future submissions.
Carre Adams is a mixed media artist, creative consultant, and filmmaker. Some of his former projects and collaborations have been featured on, Arts in Context, produced by PBS, Feministing, Art in America, and Forbes. He received his BA from Sarah Lawrence College in Visual Arts and African and African Diaspora Studies. A former co-director at allgo, a statewide queer people of color arts and advocacy organizations, he as repeatedly sought professional opportunities that allow him to merge his creative pursuits with movements for racial and economic justice. He is a former We Shall Overcome Fellow whose work has been supported by Alternate ROOTS and The Highlander Research and Education Center. He currently resides in Austin, TX where he works as Associate Curator and Coordinator of Exhibitions for the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center. Adams is a member of Big Medium’s 2019 Studio Tour Review Committee.
Andrea Mellard is the Director of Public Programs & Community Engagement for The Contemporary Austin and founder of Crit Group. She curates programming that takes advantage of the museum’s two distinct sites—one urban and the other natural—and provides platforms for audiences to come together, investigate art, and create new experiences. In addition to film series and artist talks, Mellard has curated recent exhibitions and projects with Janine Antoni, Sanford Biggers, Nick Cave, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Lucky Dragons, Ragnar Kjartansson, and Mark Mothersbaugh. For six years, she has co-led Crit Group, a museum program for local artists that build community and offers feedback and professional development. With over eighteen years of museum experience, and an MA in American Studies from The University of Texas at Austin, she brings an interdisciplinary approach to contemporary culture. Mellard was a member of Big Medium’s 2018 Tito’s Prize Curatorial Panel.
