Dan Jian
Describe your artistic style in three words.
Landscape, imaginary, introverted.
What's inspiring you right now?
Zazen, open dialogue, domestic space, walking in nature, and chopping woods.
What do you do when you're feeling uninspired?
Tagging, arguing, busy works on electronic screens.
Tell us something unique about your process.
I recently started working with charcoal dust dropping, making a long landscape in a scroll format that the viewer is invited to take a visual walk with the artist.
What advice do you have for other artists?
If you do a vision board like me or make a list of your ambitions, be clear about what you want for yourself. For instance, wanting a career is different from, say, enjoying a practice; a career involves understanding the marketplace and networking, while an art practice doesn't. It is good to be explicit, so your expectation with art-making is practical.
